An Audi with purely electric drive in series – soon no longer just a vision, but to be experienced on the road. You can already feel it: all the contributors to this project are eagerly awaiting that moment, when a further facet will be added to the company's principle of Vorsprung durch Technik. The Audi e-tron quattro concept was presented at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt in 2015 and provides a tangible glimpse of a purely electrically powered sports SUV of the luxury class. And also of the fact that Audi gives its alternative drives a sporty, contemporary look to take on their way.

The Audi e-tron quattro concept generates all its main light functions using matrix laser technology, the next step in the development of automotive lighting technology. Divided into small pixels, the beam of the matrix laser headlights can illuminate the road in high-resolution and with precise control. In the lower section of the front is a striking new signature light, consisting of five lighting elements. Each of them combines an LED luminaire with a very flat OLED element (organic light-emitting diode). The OLED elements light up homogeneously, can be dimmed, and can display different lighting scenarios. The use of matrix laser OLED technology in the Audi e-tron quattro concept is a world first on the front of a car, and represents "Vorsprung durch Technik" in the field of automotive lighting.
The cabin of the Audi e-tron quattro concept tapers sharply towards the rear. The shoulder line extends over the boot lid and gives it structure. Along this line runs an LED light guide, which links the tail lights together and thus emphasises the width of the car. Similar to the units on the front, the taillights are also designed in two zones. In the upper area, there are nine flat OLED units that perform tail-light functions; three more lie below, one above the other.
In a car that is purely powered by electricity, the aerodynamics are key. The range of more than 500 kilometers achieved by the Audi e-tron quattro concept is also made possible by its new design, highly oriented around the principles of aerodynamics. With its extremely low drag coefficient of cw 0.25, the sport SUV glides easily, quietly, and highly efficiently through the wind. With a length of 4.88 meters, a width of 1.93 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.91 meters, the Audi e-tron quattro concept ranks between the Audi Q5 and the Audi Q7. In height, it remains significantly lower than the two production models – it comes to only 1.54 meters. The glass house is particularly shallow, the roofline dips down again early on, and the D-pillars are correspondingly flat – the architecture has pronounced coupé-like features.
